• Research fields:. Creation of a database for Italian earthquake catalogues. Expert system for the macroseismic intensity degree assessment. Regional seismicity, macroseismic, seismotectonic studies and seismic hazard evaluation in Sicily, southern Apennines and north-eastern Italy. Seismic activity in the Etnean area.

• Current and ongoing research: Evaluation of the Sicilian historical earthquake parameters (location, attenuation, magnitude, fault plane solutions). Analysis of the seismicity and geophysical prospecting to identify seismogenetic faults in Sicily. Definition of seismic history, hazard and seismic scenarios for Sicilian sites. Seismicity of the Etnean area and relationships with eruptive phenomena.

• Research Fields: compositional, textural and structural features of sedimentary rock. Sandstone clan is particularly emphasised with references to their petrography, mineralogy and geochemistry in order to define the provenance and to interpret the tectonic evolution of the “drainage-sedimentary basin” system. 
• Current, ongoing researches: petrography and sedimentology of the Cretaceous-Tertiary turbidite sandstones cropping out (a) in the Sicilian Maghrebian Chain, (b) in the Internal Rif (Morocco). Investigation of the sediment sources and of the provenance variations in order to provide a complete sequence of the tectonic events occurred during the geodynamic evolution of the western Mediterranean area.
• Collaborative researches: (1) stratigraphy, petrography and palaeogeographic restorations of the Oligocene-Miocene detrital sedimentation of the innermost sectors of the Rifian Chain (Département des Sciences de la Terre et d'Océanologie, Université Abdelmalek Essaadi de Tanger, Morocco, Prof, M. N. Zaghloul), (2) Institute of Nuclear Research of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, Debrecen-Hungary (Dr. K. Balogh) for the measurements of K/Ar ages of volcanic rocks occurring within the examined turbiditic (3) sedimentology and petrography of Tertiary flysch successions of the Eastern Carpathian Mts. (Departamentul de Geologie, “Al. I. Cuza” University of Iaşi, Romania, Prof. C. Grasu and Dr. C. Miclaus).
