EUDEM – Jean Monnet Information and Research Activity on EU Foreign Policy and Democracy Promotion

EUDEM is carrying out an original multidisciplinary research project on EU Foreign Policy and democracy assistance.  Research results will be disseminate during a 3-day Conference addressed to students and civil society associations.

This trans-national multidisciplinary research group fulfils a valuable academic added-value task: to overcome cultural, national and disciplinary barriers. The researchers belong to Italian and non-Italian universities and work in different disciplinary fields (Political Science, History, Political Philosophy and Law). By using different methodological and analytical tools, they are studying topics such as EU as a democracy promoter, democracy assistance through the EIDHR, blocked democratic transitions, the trans-cultural understanding of the nature of human rights in the Med area. Case-studies (Egypt, Morocco, Tunisia, Libya) and Euro-Med cooperation frameworks (ENP, UfM) deserve specific attention. A critical evaluation on EU instruments, recipients and aid effects will be provided.

This IRA upholds the LLP objectives and offers information and research on the chosen topic with an innovative methodology: at any stage of the project there is a synergetic relationship between researchers, students and civil society representatives.

EUDEM  SCHEDULE

September – Dicember 2010: Setting up of the project’s network. Elaboration of the research guidelines during preliminary meetings via web (i.e. SKYPE) and e-mails. Guidelines illustrate project’s aim, researchers’ task, timetable, etc.
